On August 14, the China-Africa Media Forum was held in Johannesburg, South Africa. H.E. Guo Weimin, Vice Minister of the State Council Information Office of the People’s Republic of China, H.E. Lin Songtian, Chinese Ambassador-Designate to South Africa, and Mr. Kevin Ritchie, Regional Executive Editor of independent media, Gauteng, attended the forum and delivered a speech. H.E. Consul General Ruan Ping and leaders of 28 main medias from China and 11 African countries attended the meeting.

Ambassador Lin comprehensively introduced the history of development of China-Africa relations and stressed that China-Africa relation has entered a new stage of vigorous development and opened up a new horizon of comprehensive cooperation. First, China has proposed new concepts for China-Africa cooperation. Proposed by H.E. President Xi Jinping, the principles of sincerity, practical results, affinity and good faith as well as the values of friendship, justice and shared interests in conducting China's relations with Africa, point out the direction for the development of China-Africa relations. Second, China and Africa have jointly opened a new era of win-win cooperation for common development. During the FOCAC Johannesburg Summit in December 2015, H.E. President Xi Jinping announced that over the next three years, China and Africa shall implement Ten Cooperation Plans that mainly focus on accelerating Africa's industrialization and agricultural modernization. During the Summit, the Chinese and African leaders unanimously agreed to upgrade China-Africa relations to comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership, ushering the ties into a new era of win-win cooperation for common development. Third, new breakthroughs have been made in China-Africa friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation. Lots of progress has been made in the implementation of outcomes since the FOCAC Johannesburg Summit, and China-Africa mutually beneficial cooperation has entered a new stage of transformation and upgrade, which is shifting from government-led assistance to market-driven trade and enterprise investment, from general merchandise trade to production capacity cooperation and processing trade, from project contracting to investment, construction and operation. Fourth, China-Africa cooperation for development faces new historic opportunities. China and Africa are both faced with a historic opportunity to synergize our respective development strategies, and more tangible benefits will be delivered to both Chinese and African people.

Ambassador Lin said that the journalists from China and Africa have played an irreplaceable role in the development of the friendship and cooperation between China and Africa, and hoped them to promote China-Africa friendship, and uphold common interest of China-Africa; to tell real and truthful stories of China-Africa cooperation, and offer guidance to the public opinion; to identify opportunities of China-Africa cooperation, and promote our mutually beneficial cooperation; to deepen mutual understanding between China and Africa, and make greater contribution to promote China-Africa cooperation and common development.

The leaders of 28 media agencies highly praised the current development of China-Africa relations and great achievements of mutually beneficial cooperation.
