H.E. Amb. Lin Songtian Pays a Courtesy Call on Foreign Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane

On August 15, 2017, South African Foreign Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane met with new the Chinese ambassador to South Africa, Mr. Lin Songtian, at her official residence. The two exchanged views on bilateral friendship and cooperation, BRICS cooperation and other topics.

Ambassador Lin spoke highly of China-South Africa relations and said that with the direct guidance of the two Presidents and the joint efforts of the two countries, China-South Africa relationship has come into its best historical moment. The two countries enjoy unprecedented political and strategic mutual trust, fruitful mutually beneficial cooperation, and profound friendship between our two peoples. The China-South Africa comprehensive strategic partnership is running at a high level. That Minister Nkoana-Mashabane arranged a meeting with me shortly after my arrival underscores the high importance South Africa attaches to China-South Africa relations. At this critical moment, I am deeply privileged to be the new Chinese Ambassador to South Africa and feel the tremendous responsibility entrusted upon myself. I will work to further promote the comprehensive implementation of the important consensus reached between our two Presidents, push forward cooperation in key areas and promote the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and South Africa so as to deliver more benefits to both the two countries and peoples. China is willing to strengthen coordination with South Africa to make the upcoming BRICS Summit in Xiamen a full success so as to promote the common development and interests of the BRICS countries.

Minister Nkoana-Mashabane warmly welcomes Ambassador Lin to South Africa and said that South Africa highly values its relations with China and considers China as South Africa's most important strategic partner. South Africa is willing to further deepen political and strategic mutual trust with China, enhance their coordination and cooperation within the BRICS and other international and regional cooperation mechanism and elevate the comprehensive strategic partnership between South Africa and China to a new high. The Minister would like to establish a "comrade plus brother" working relationship and friendship with Ambassador Lin and provide all necessary facilitation and assistance to the Ambassador and the Chinese Embassy to perform the duty in South Africa.
