In order to enhance mutual understanding and expand channels of communication between China and South African public, the Chinese Embassy has established the Spokesperson mechanism. The spokespersons' responsibilities include releasing information about China-South Africa and China-Africa relations, as well as domestic and foreign policies of China on the Embassy's website, giving press conferences and briefings and answering questions via email, fax and telephone.
Counselor Mr. HU Zhangliang and Counselor Ms. PAN Peng are nominated as the new spokespersons of the Embassy, beginning in January 2015.

Counselor Mr. HU Zhangliang
Mr. HU Zhangliang, born in 1973, previously worked as the division director of the Department of African affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the deputy mayor of Rushan City in Shandong Province and the counselor of the Chinese Embassy in the United Kingdom. In December 2013, he was appointed as the counselor of the Chinese Embassy in South Africa.
Counselor Ms. PAN Peng
Ms. PAN Peng, born in 1975, previously worked in the Chinese Embassy in the United States, in the Department of West Asian and North African Affairs of MFA, and as the deputy division director in the Department of Personnel of MFA. In July 2013, she was appointed as the press counselor of the Chinese Embassy in South Africa.
