Chinese Embassy Strongly Condemns and Opposes IFP's Visit to Taiwan
2019/12/17

It is shocked and indignated to notice that the leadership of the Inkatha Freedom Party is visiting Taiwan, China and challenging One-China Principle and commitment from 16 to 20 December 2019. The visit is a severe violation and blatant defiance of the One-China Principle. The Chinese Embassy strongly condemns and opposes it.

It is universally recognized that there is only one China in the world, Taiwan is an integral part of China. The government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing China, including Taiwan. This is the One-China Principle and Policy, which was enshrined in the UN Resolution 2758 in 1971, and was universally recognized by the international community as an international norm. All members of the UN, including South Africa, are obliged to abide by the UN Resolution and the international norm.

The One-China Principle is the political premise and foundation of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and South Africa. This is a solemn commitment made by the South African government on behalf of its people, and should be honored by all South African political parties.

The relationship between IFP and Taiwan authority is built on narrow party and personal interests rather than the interests of the South African people. The Chinese Embassy opposes any kind of official exchanges between any political party and the Taiwan authority. It’s hoped that the South African government and people will say no loudly to the IFP wrong act and urge the IFP to stop any interaction with Taiwan authority to prevent further damage to China-South Africa relations and the benefits of both Peoples.

The reunification of the mainland China and Taiwan is unstoppable and will never be blocked by any force. Any attempts to challenge the One-China Principle are doomed to failure.
