2016/05/13

On May 11, 2016 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Minister for External Relations and Cooperation Abdoulkarim Mohamed of Comoros before attending the 7th Ministerial Meeting of China-Arab States Cooperation Forum (CASCF) in Doha.

Wang Yi expressed that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Comoros, the two countries have treated each other equally, conducted mutually beneficial cooperation and rendered mutual understanding and support on major issues such as those involving each other's core interests. Bilateral relations have maintained the momentum of development. During the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) last December, President Xi Jinping held meeting with President Ikililou Dhoinine. The Chinese side stands ready to, in line with the consensus reached by both leaders, take the implementation of outcomes from the FOCAC and the CASCF as mainlines to carry out mutually beneficial cooperation with Comoros in such fields as infrastructure construction, medical treatment, public health, exploitation of energy resources, marine economy and fishery industry. It is hoped that Comoros can take full advantage of resources and advantages of the two important platforms of the FOCAC and the CASCF in order to explore and expand new areas of cooperation.

Abdoulkarim Mohamed expressed that China is one of the earliest countries which recognize the independence of Comoros and support the development of the country. Comoros is the first African country to adopt the Chinese standard of digital television and China's artemisinin has played an important role in eliminating malaria in Comoros. China will soon dispatch medical teams to carry out "Brightness Trip" activities as well. Comoros expresses heartfelt gratitude to China's sincere assistance, and will continue to give strong support to issues including those related to China's sovereignty. Comoros hopes to make full use of the CASCF and the FOCAC, strengthen cooperation in all fields with China and gain more benefits from the joint construction of the Belt and Road.
