Xi Jinping Meets with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore

On July 6, 2017 local time, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore in Hamburg.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Singapore enjoy traditional friendship and fruitful outcomes from cooperation. The two countries have walked out a road of cooperation progressing with times and featuring mutual learning. Attaching great importance to developing its friendly relationship with Singapore, China is willing to, together with Singapore, constantly push bilateral all-round cooperative partnership that keeps pace with the times for new progress.

Xi Jinping stressed that both sides should inherit the good traditions fostered by the older-generation leaders of both countries, well grasp the development direction of bilateral relations from a strategic height and long-term perspective, and continue to understand and support each other on issues concerning respective core interests and major concerns. Both sides should make innovation in cooperation ideas, deeply tap cooperation potential, well implement the Memorandum of Understanding on Jointly Promoting the Construction of the "Belt and Road", and deepen cooperation in infrastructure connectivity, economy, trade, investment and finance. The two sides should well build major inter-governmental cooperation projects, and expand cooperation in the Internet, information and communication technology and other emerging fields. Both sides should well carry out exchange projects between teenagers and college students, expand personnel exchange and consolidate the public opinion foundation for bilateral friendship. Both sides should enhance coordination and cooperation within the UN, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, the G20 and other multilateral frameworks, so as to make contributions to improving global governance.

Xi Jinping pointed out that Singapore is currently the country coordinator of relation between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and will take over the rotating presidency of the ASEAN next year. China supports Singapore's work, and believes that the country will guide the ASEAN to work together with China to push bilateral practical cooperation for higher levels, jointly lead the regional integration process and construct a closer China-ASEAN community of common destiny.

Lee Hsien Loong expressed that Singapore-China relations have made new progress in the past year. Under the current complex and changeable international situation, it is of great importance to deepen Singapore-China exchanges and cooperation. The country will continue to support and actively participate in the "Belt and Road" construction, well implement major inter-governmental projects, expand bilateral cooperation in finance, high-speed rail, establishment of free trade zone and other fields. Singapore stands ready to actively promote China-ASEAN cooperative relations.
