Liberia: Chinese Medical Team Pledges to Help Build Liberia's Health Sector

The head of the Chinese Medical Team has pledged that his team will help the Liberian Government rebuild its public health sector.

Mr. Wang Yungui observed that the Liberian public health sector is in dire need of resuscitation, and that as a very good partner to the Liberian government and people, they will help rebuild it to enable it provide adequate healthcare for citizens.

According to the Liberia News Agency, Mr. Yungui made the pledge Monday at the Bong Mines Hospital during a one-day workshop on the deadly Ebola Virus Disease, EVD. He said in the absence of a good public health system, disease outbreaks can be very devastating.

He further stressed that his government will collaborate with the government in fighting the deadly Ebola virus disease in Liberia until it is totally eradicated. He however warned that there can be no quick fix solution to the fight against the Ebola Virus Disease, noting that it requires the collective efforts of all and strict adherence to preventive measures put in place by health authorities.

He also said he and his medical team are working alongside Liberian health authorities to put in place a very good public health system that will be able to rapidly respond to outbreaks such as the Ebola pandemic that has claimed many lives in Liberia.

The one-day Ebola workshop brought together local and traditional leaders, women and youth and health workers from Bong and Margibi Counties.
