On August 25, 2010, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with South African President Jacob Zuma in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai.

"The comprehensive strategic partnership the two countries have established embodies the two sides' mutual trust and broad common interests in the new situation," Wen said. It also points out the direction for expanding and deepening mutually beneficial cooperation and promoting common development, he added. "The Chinese government will work closely with the South African government to map out and enrich action plans in various areas according to new targets and new requirements, so as to implement the consensus reached by the heads of state of the two countries and benefit the people."

Wen pointed out that to speed up the eradication of poverty, improvement of people's livelihood, expansion of demand and emergence of more new emerging markets is a key to achieving sustainable and balanced growth of the world economy as well as a basis for the international community to cope with various grave challenges. China and South Africa, as two major developing countries, shoulder important missions and have made remarkable achievements. They should continue to unite with other developing countries, help each other, promote China-Africa ties, South-South cooperation and North-South dialogue, and contribute to progress and development of mankind.

Hailing his current visit as a great success, Zuma said the establishment of the China-South Africa comprehensive strategic partnership was another achievement in the development of bilateral relations. South Africa would use bilateral mechanisms, strengthen communication and coordination with China, well implement various consensus and agreements and further enhance cooperation in such areas as economy and trade, infrastructure construction and education. Zuma said his country was very glad to participation in the Shanghai World Expo, expressing hope that it would promote cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries. The two countries should continue to support each other, coordinate closely, push forward Africa-China cooperation, push international efforts to deal with global challenges such as climate change, maintain the fundamental interests of developing countries and promote regional and world peace, stability and sustainable development.

Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Minister of the National Development and Reform Commission Zhang Ping, MOC International Trade Representative & Vice Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng, Chinese Ambassador to South Africa Zhong Jianhua and other officials attended the meeting.
