On Jan 28, the University of Johannesburg and Nanjing Tech University jointly launched the Confucius Institute in Johannerburg, which has been hailed by the guests present as another platform for South African people to understand China and Chinese culture as well as to further promote the friendship and mutual understanding between the two peoples.

The NanjingTech-UJ Confucius Institute is the fifth Confucius Institute in South Africa. With the concerted efforts of both sides, three Confucius Classrooms have also been established. South Africa is home to the largest number of Confucius Institutes and Chinese language learners.
