On December 3 local time, President Xi Jinping met in Johannesburg with President Ali Bongo Ondimba of Gabon.

Xi Jinping pointed out that besides being old and good friends of the Chinese people, Mr. President and your father are also staunch supporters and promoters of China-Gabon relations. Under the joint efforts, bilateral cooperation in all areas has yielded fruitful results, bringing benefits to both peoples and gaining their support. Both sides should earnestly carry forward the traditional friendship and cement the political foundation for bilateral relations. The two nations should also actively carry out people-to-people and cultural cooperation and deepen mutual understanding between both peoples, especially between the youths so as to pass down the friendship from generation to generation. China is in favor of expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with the Gabonese side in production capacity, agriculture, new energy and other areas, and encourages Chinese enterprises to participate in infrastructure construction and energy resources development in Gabon. We are willing to enhance communication and coordination with the Gabonese side on major international and regional issues.

Ali Bongo Ondimba noted that China is an old friend and a reliable partner of Gabon. He appreciates China's support for Gabon's economic development and infrastructure construction, and its assistance in Gabon's capacity building in safeguarding security. The Gabonese side welcomes Chinese enterprises to increase investment in forestry, agriculture, export of agricultural products and other areas in Gabon, and stands ready to transform itself into a hub for Chinese citizens and enterprises to enter into central Africa.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others attended the meeting.
